Jason D Swartwood
I am an instructor of Philosophy at Saint Paul College in Saint Paul, MN. I have a BA (philosophy; minor in classics), summa cum laude, from the College of William and Mary and an MA and PhD in philosophy from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. I wrote my doctoral dissertation on practical wisdom under the supervision of Valerie Tiberius. Before finding philosophy, I was a temporary high-school dropout, a singer in an obscure Twin Cities punk band, a community and technical college student, and a certified veterinary technician.
My specialty is in ethics. I am especially interested in exploring empirically-informed accounts of practical wisdom and practical reasoning. I am also very interested in pedagogical questions, especially regarding how philosophy courses can help students develop skill at practical and theoretical reasoning.
